Establishing herself quickly as a distinguished performer and educator, Ukrainian-Canadian pianist Mariya Orlenko is the Grand Prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition and has received top accolades from the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition and the OSM Manulife Competition. Most recently, Mariya was chosen as the winner of the prestigious 2024 Orford Music Award, and the University of Toronto DMA Piano Recital Competition.

Mariya was a proud recipient of The Hnatyshyn Foundation Ukraine-Heritage, Spirit and Future Grant in 2023. Her performances have earned critical acclaim at renowned events such as the Arthur Rubinstein International Youth Piano Competition in Beijing and the Aarhus International Piano Competition. Mariya has collaborated with prominent orchestras across North America, including the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, Virginia Waring Festival Orchestra, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, North York Concert Orchestra, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and Kindred Spirits Orchestra. 

An active performer, Mariya concertizes regularly with her husband, violinist Daniel Temnik, as part of Duo Ineo. Together, they have most recently played in venues such as the Jeanne Lamon Hall at Trinity-St. Paul’s, and as a part of the Alliance Française de Toronto series in Spadina Theatre. Mariya’s recent solo engagements include appearances at the Canadian Opera Company Free Concert Series and the Beethoven Sestercentennial Extravaganza with Concerts@100. Her contributions to the arts have been further acknowledged with The Hnatyshyn Foundation Emerging Artist Scholarship.

Dedicated to fostering the next generation of musicians, Mariya has adjudicated at the Unionville Music Festival and the Scarborough Music Festival. She is also the founder of The Efficient Musician Inc., a company dedicated to advancing music education and supporting young artists in achieving their professional aspirations.

Mariya is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Lydia Wong, where she also completed her Master of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Glenn Gould School, where she studied with John Perry and David Louie as a recipient of The Ihnatowycz Emerging Artist Scholarship.
